Durham Rural Community Council

ruralnet|uk annual conference - 60 free places now available for voluntary and community groups

The Commission for Rural Communities (CRC) and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) have agreed to sponsor 30 places each so rural voluntary and community groups across England and Wales can attend the ruralnet|uk annual conference: Exploiting Your Rural Capital - New Perspectives on Rural Assets.

The standard delegate fee is £299 including dinner and accommodation, so this sponsorship is extremely valuable to small voluntary and community groups that would not otherwise afford to attend. To apply for a sponsored place, go to the conference page of the ruralnet website.

The event will be held on 11-12 October at Centre Parcs Conference Venue, Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire and will look at the five assets that can be exploited for a better livelihood: social, financial, natural, human and physical capital.

The programme will feature:

  • A morning supplement exploring the concept of market towns as 'rural capitals' presented by main sponsors East Midlands Development Agency
  • Keynote speeches by John Grimshaw, CEO of Sustrans and mastermind of the National Cycle Network and Simon Hebditch, CEO of Capacity Builders
  • A rural housing anti-panel session including Moira Constable, CEO of the Rural Housing Trust and James Paice MP
  • The ruralnet|trial - Rural development agencies are charged with exaggerating the issue of rural deprivation
  • Breakout sessions on Affordable Housing presented by Defra, ICCT for collaboration, rural broadband, and the logical frameworks concept
  • An exhibition and farmers market -6 local producers will make fresh goods available to delegates.
